Discover Manchester

Comfortable shoes and a thirst for history will be required this morning as you take a walking tour of Manchester, where you will come face to face with some of its historic buildings including the Midland Hotel, St Ann’s Church and Chetham’s School of Music.

This afternoon is free for you to explore the city at your own pace. You might choose to visit the Museum of Science and Industry, visit the Manchester Art Gallery, indulge in some retail therapy or watch a show at one of the many theatres.  You will never run out of things to do in this diverse city!

Chester’s Roman Heritage

Chester, a city rich in 2,000 years of history, which is full of Tudor and Victorian buildings, is where you will be heading today.

Take a train to Chester through the rolling Cheshire countryside to begin your adventure. When you arrive, join the popular hop-on hop-off sightseeing bus in order to reach your cruise along the River Dee. After a relaxing trip, re-join the sightseeing bus. The afternoon will allow you to delve deeper in to the city’s history with a walking tour before having some free time to hit the shops.

Rails, Sails and Tales in the Lake District

Today you will visit the picturesque Lake District. With stunning views of glistening lakes and towering mountains and a literary heritage which includes William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter, it’s no wonder that this is the UK’s most visited national park.

Begin by taking a train to Windermere to join a sightseeing bus tour which will take you to Bowness Pier. From here, take a relaxing cruise on Lake Windermere to reach Lakeside where you will board a train on the heritage railway.  Return to Bowness and finish your day with a visit to The World of Beatrix Potter.

Medieval York

Day five of your tour is dedicated to the walled city of York; a city rich in ancient history, awe-inspiring architecture and captivating visitor attractions.

Take a train journey through the Pennine hills to York where you will be given a ‘York Pass’ which grants you free entry in to 30 attractions, such as: Clifford’s Tower, the JORVIK Viking Centre, York’s Chocolate Story and York Minster. You can also jump on a hop-on hop-off bus tour or take a river cruise. With so much on offer, the day’s itinerary is completely up to you to decide – where will you head first?
